Under the new Tunisian finance law, and as of 1 January 2018, a tourist tax applies to guests staying in Tunisian hotels, regardless of their nationality. This tax is paid by the guest on arrival and charged to the hotels. The tax is paid in Tunisian dinars against a receipt issued by the hotel. The tax is 3 Tunisian dinars per night per adult (over 12) for guests from the Greater Maghreb and 12 Tunisian dinars per night per adult (over 12) for foreign nationals. For 5-star and 4-star category hotels it is limited to a maximum of 10 nights, even if the stay exceeds 10 nights.
